Kit + Continuing Her Fight.
"They tell me it will get easier" She said, quietly.Exhausted and yet carried on wings of grace, she smiled down at the little girl clinging to her, even in her sleep.
Their family is grounded, Kit is resilient. There will be a day when they look back, their beautiful girl grown and strong. And this all will be a piece of her, a painful yet triumphant, integral part of what shaped her influence, the impact she made, the greatness she is.
Regardless, for the time being, cancer is a thief. Days are long. Emotions are high. Rest is little. Fatigue has set in. And it's only just begun.
Along the way, they've been embraced in compassion, covered in prayer, but now, as the adrenaline wears off, monetary donations continue to be even more essential as hospital visits are weekly and consuming. Isolation is necessary and lonely. Jobs are a delicate balance, careers taking a back seat for a season as full-time caregiving is the new norm.
MaryKate + Cory recently shared the following:
"We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of donations we have received on Kit's behalf and we want to thank each and every one of you. When Kit was first diagnosed last month, we knew there was going to be a heavy financial impact but it really started to sink in when we picked up Kit's first month of prescriptions and the total came to $1100 - and that was AFTER insurance! Kit will continue to require a great deal of care during her initial eight months of treatment and due to her immune system being basically wiped out, she won't be able to attend daycare either. Cory and I will both be using up our FMLA this year and while we are so blessed to have that option to be able to take off work and be with Kit, it's unpaid for the most part. Your donations have also eased the stress and burden that comes along with a significant loss of income.
Our family has been thrust into a situation that no family should have to go through, but we have also had the unique perspective to see the great power and impact a community of family, friends, coworkers and even strangers can have when they all come together. Every single donation will have an impact on our lives during this journey and we are so incredibly thankful."
While the needs are many, community is greater; hope is stronger.
There was no warm-up, no easing into this battle. Everyday became one-day-at a-time in the blink of an eye. But, this beautiful baby girl, she’ll join the ranks of the fighters who have gone before her, Irish spunk, spitfire, sparkle and all.
Please pass Kit’s story on, share her videos (The story of her diagnosis here or as the fight continues here), give as you feel led here. But, most importantly, be prepared to watch how this little girl fights her battle with joy, strength and triumph.
