Indigo heights painted into faded powder layers surrendering to skies.

We retreated to the mountains for just a few days this past week. A celebration of the thirty years of life we’d been given, it had been planned for awhile, and yet with recent events in our lives, it was even more timely.

“I lift my eyes up to the mountains, where does my help come from?  Psalm 121:1

There will be a day to tell it all, a day to share the story of the tears and the fullness of the redemption. But for now, I will simply sing my song of hope, my song of healing.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Jesus’s words hold the reality we all face, a world where right doesn’t always prevail, innocence is stolen, justice is thwarted, wounds throb deep, bleed heavy, and scarring seems the most we can wish for.

We could each tell our stories of how true we know the trouble.

Or perhaps, we guard the bitter memories, our shame, stay silent in our pain.

My sister shared inspired words the other day, poignantly addressing the siege on faith, the battle for hopeful expectation despite insurmountable odds.

“You see, as a very young child I was equipped for battles I never knew I'd face, taught where to find healing for pain I never knew I'd feel. So when the world stops, turns completely upside down, and the devil, starts launching all he's got, I'm not caught off guard. although he is smart and crafty and has wounded many on my side, he still can't seem to understand the strength of the armor I wear.

You don't know a miracle on the field until you have witnessed one- prayed for it, cried for it, sweat for it, hoped with all your might for it. then, in the midst of complete vulnerability, it's revealed, and you see it, touch it, embrace it and breathe it in...

That very same scripture that lays out the troubles of this life, it continues...

take heart….

gather confidence,

grasp hope,

expect redemption.

This isn’t all there is.

“My help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth, He will not let your foot slip--He who watches over you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:1-2

Annie's words also continued,

“my prayer is that I raise my children to know their foundation, their rock.. to know where to turn, how to fight, and the power of prayer in the midst of war.”

And, this is why I share. Not to peak curiosity on circumstances, because, truly, we all have our journeys, our miracles.

The Sovereign Lord is my strength, He makes my feet like the feet of the deer.

Habakuk 3:19

I share, I sing, because my Jesus, well, He is.

In the deprivation, he is the provision.

In the suffocation, He is the breath of life.

My Jesus, He is all.

“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.” Psalm 18:33

And should the mountains either be shaken or rise up against me,

it doesn’t matter. “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

My faith will not waver, I shall not fear,

because of the One who made the mountains,

The One who

despite all separations of transgressions extends forgiveness,

across all heights of impossibility promises miracles,

over all depths of despair offers redemption.

I sing because my Redeemer, He lives.
