Haley + The Yellow Peony. Kansas City Lifestyle Photographer.

Haley is one of the ones who sees luster through the age, loveliness in what could be and treasures the timeless romance of the past. From her visions, art is created, with her dreams, success is earned, inspiration is shared.

As the owner and designer behind The Yellow Peony, her intricate pieces grace blushing brides for the most important day of their life. Getting the opportunity to peek at her beautiful space was truly a privilege.

Here's more about who she is in her own words:

"My business is all about designing and producing high quality, vintage-inspired accessories for brides. I started it accidentally when, as I shopped for my own bridal accessories, I couldn’t find something that was both well-made and affordable. I find that those same values inform how I run my business today. I really put a high value on prices that are reasonable for brides but also allow for good quality materials and craftsmanship, so they receive a piece that can be passed down as an heirloom to future generations. My aim is to make brides feel that much more beautiful on their special day, and to do it with a unique piece that sets them apart and carries their theme and style through their whole wedding day ensemble. It is the one day in your life it’s completely fine to be the belle of the ball, and no one can question you – so I say live it up and wear the veil or headpiece you’ve always dreamed of wearing. I do work with brides to design custom pieces as well, but with well over 100 items in my stock of hair accessories, veils, sashes and headbands, most brides find a piece that fits their vision from my existing designs.

One of my goals when I first started my business by selling on Etsy was to be making half my salary (at my day job) within two years and be able to go part time. It only took me 9 months to hit that goal after I focused solely on bridal and I went part time in my day job last Fall.  That was a huge success for me, being able to have more time to do what I love. Creating something with your own two hands is so fulfilling and satisfying professionally – especially when it begins to be able to help support your family practically and financially.

I’m very proud of the fact that my business has grown organically from nothing to what it is today – a burgeoning bridal line carried in 5 shops nationwide and growing. I never took out a small business loan or incurred any debt to grow – I just plowed my profits back into my business, grew slowly and organically, and found it to be the most sustainable, secure way to grow. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but for me to see my humble beginnings to where I am now just makes me so grateful. God has really blessed the work of my hands. I couldn’t be happier to be doing this thing that I love."
